Dice Rolling Tray (August 2025)
The goal of this project was to both have a easy way to bring my dice to my friend's apartment to play DND, and have a place to roll the dice in the case.
This tray has negatives of each die, so that they fit snugly and do not rotate during travel. The middle of the tray is covered in felt tape, to soften the impact of the dice on the surface.
The two sides of the case are held together by cabinet magnets, and the center of the lid drafts down to lock into the rolling area. The reason for this is so that if the case is dropped, the lid and case transmit the force through the extrusion in the center, and not the dice between them. Secondly, the same feature can be added to the bottom of the case, so that the lid can click into the bottom of the case while it is being used, as pictured.
For a future revision of the project, I would make sure the felt was applied more evenly for a good looking finish, and try to shrink the overall dimensions of the case. I would also look into decorations for the exterior.
