Google Calendar Printer (2022, 2025)

This project started in 2022, as a way for me to be able to check my calendar for the day without ever having to pick up my phone. I wrote a program that opens my google calendar, scans the events for the day, formats them and prints it out onto a slip of receipt paper, automatically every morning. 

Specifically, a Python script is triggered every morning by crontab, which uses the Google Calendar API to get a list of every event in the day. Each event name and time is formatted onto a .txt file, which the Python script then prints out using the CUPS library. Once it was all built, I made a housing for the system in Onshape, which uses gravity to keep the lid down, and a friction fit to keep the printer in place.

After initially slapping the system into a piece of Tupperware, over the summer I revamped the housing and wrote up full instructions on how to make it. Now, anyone can make it!
